CELEBRITY SLIM ROUND 2!

**Read part one here**

After having a very successful first round with the amazing CelebritySlim program, I was so pleased when I had the opportunity to try it again.  Lloyds Pharmacy kindly sent me the 7 Day Starter Pack* along with the Cranberry Yoghurt snack bars which I absolutely LOVE by the way!

You also get a program guide which is very handy and a small food diary which is great to write down what you eat and keep track so you can look back and see what you ate on a certain day.
You can see below the different phases, this 7 Day Starter Pack is the 'Trim Phase' I reckon the 'Rapid Phase' would be more appropriate for me as I go to the gym 4 times per week and go on the treadmill at home.

What I ate for dinner
Salmon fillet with steamed veg (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower)
Chicken breast with salad and a dollop of light french dressing
Tuna with salad and a dollop of extra light mayonnaise so it's not too dry
Turkey breast with steamed veg and gravy (Bisto gravy granules) and a teaspoon of mint sauce
Ham salad with 1 boiled egg and a dollop of extra light mayonnaise

Snacks I had
Celebrity Slim snack bars
Small piece of fruit (orange, apple, pear)
A handfull of nuts (almonds mostly) Almonds are the most nutrient-dense tree nut.  They are an excellent source of vitamin B, E, magnesium, folic acid, protein and fibre - They are also packed full of extremely good fats.
1/2 grapefruit
Celery sticks and 30g of peanut butter

Overall thoughts
Yet again, a very successful round with this program... I feel like I can stick to this and everything tastes amazing which is usually rare on slimming programs.  I have done Weight Watchers in the past and found it very boring, dull and was so tired of counting points and worrying if I'd gone over.  This program is very laid back, you have two shakes a day (breakfast, lunch) and have a healthy meal for your dinner which is really easy to follow.
I did take my measurements before starting CelebritySlim for the second time and I lost a total of 7 inches and 4.5lbs which I'm very pleased with :)  I can fit better into my skinny jeans and don't have that awful muffin top feeling anymore.
This is a fab program to kick start your weight loss, even if you just use the 7 Day Starter Pack but it is recommended to use for 8 weeks.

You can buy CelebritySlim from their official website here, from Lloyds pharmacies or on their website here

MUA SERIES: LO DIAS

My second guest for the MUA SERIES is the lovely Lo Dias from Newcastle.  I have admired her work over the last few year on Facebook and she is an extremely talented lass!  Her makeup always looks so flawless, total perfection and I envy her brows... Check out some of her amazing work below along with the makeup interview :)

FIRSTLY, HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY? AND HOW DID YOU BECOME SO SUCCESSFUL?

I have always been a super creative person since I was tiny.  Drawing, painting anything I could do to create!
My sister who is nearly 10 years older than me worked on makeup counters such as Benefit, Makeup forever, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier so in my early teens I would be reading all her makeup books and already getting to play with really high quality products!
I got the chicken pox really bad when I was 13 and was crying my eyes out about going back to school when I was well because I was so full of anxiety about everyone seeing my face full of scars n scabs… at this point I hadn’t worn much makeup on my skin before and was worried people would be able to tell. My sister Claire came home from work and had bought me a little present of Bobbi Brown concealer and a powder and I felt like a whole new girl when she showed me how to apply it and went to school with my confidence intact! From then on I never looked back and played and played with makeup.
At 17 I was working for St Tropez and always tanning the MAC girls who I would chat to constantly about makeup, send lots of customers over to them and they always said mine was applied great! One of the girls made me put my cv in to MAC just after I had turned 18 and I was expecting nothing with how young I was but I actually got the job! From there on I went on to work at Urban Decay then freelance.
With freelance work the first year or so I did a bunch of free work with photographers to build a portfolio on the side of doing clients for occasions which taught me a lot about the industry. A lot of networking and hard work got me to the point I am now very busy with my work at the age of 22 and although successful it’s the kind of industry where you can always learn more and grow as an artist so I look forward to new adventures in makeup!  Now I still freelance for myself but also do events and Youtube tutorials for an amazing German brand Artdeco that are just becoming well known in the UK!
YOU'VE RECENTLY WORKED WITH ROXANNE PALLETT FROM EMMERDALE, WHERE YOU NERVOUS? AND ARE THERE ANY OTHER FAMOUS FACES YOU'VE WORKED WITH?

With Artdeco ive gone a long to a few events doing vlogging before I even did any makeup so I wasn’t really nervous around the celebs once it came to doing some makeup!
The first vlog I did at a celebrity event where there was loads of girls from Emmerdale, Coronation street and Hollyoaks I was nervous as I didn’t know how the celebs would be etc but they were so lovely and laid back you feel right at home!
I did the vlog for the Gavin Blyth Ball’s launch photoshoot where I had actually met Roxanne Pallett, Gemma Oaten, Kelsey-Beth Crossley and Marcus Collins and had a total giggle with them all day so when it came to actually working in the makeup room for the event itself I felt really relaxed and Roxanne and Gemma were really excited for me to do their makeup as they love the way I do my own!
They loved what I did and I actually got to go to the ball with Artdeco and see my work in action on the red carpet!
Other than that I have worked with Charlotte from Geordie Shore. One super hilarious lovely lady!
WHATS YOUR IDEAL TYPE OF CLIENT?

Every client is a new challenge and a new opportunity to learn so i'm not overly fussy!
Its always enjoyable and easier creating a look for someone who has an idea of what they want so you know where to start and are comfortable to give you a bit of free reign to create but when someone is super fussy to me I just feel like right i'm on a mission. I don’t win unless they are happy… and I like to win haha!

DO YOU HAVE ANY FUNNY/EMBARRASSING STORIES FROM WORKING IN THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY?

Im generally a bit clumsy on set and the first time I worked in a big studio a spilt glitter everywhere! I mean everywhere!!!
Other than that I have walked into big studio lights etc!
HAS THERE EVER BEEN A TIME WHEN YOU'VE LOOKED BACK AT SOME WORK YOU'VE DONE AND THOUGHT "OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING!!??"

As an artist i'm my worst critic so right now I could sit and give you a list of things I don’t like that I can look back on haha! To me nothing is as good as anyone else thinks it is but I have learnt to appreciate my own work and be proud of what I have done.
I'm not afraid to admit there are times I do a part of a makeup (especially dramatic ones for photoshoots) where I will literally go “ok i'm not happy” and take it off and re-do it rather than continue and be unhappy with the finished product and that’s an important lesson to learn! Remember its not permanent… you can take it off and make it right and everyone is better off in the long run! Don’t be too proud to admit something isn’t working because that’s when you give yourself the chance to make it really work!
DO YOU PREFER TO WORK ON YOUNGER OR MORE MATURE PEOPLE AND WHY?

Again I see every face as a new challenge, a new opportunity to learn and a new part of your story as an artist!
For dramatic photo shoots you always tend to get young fresh faced models which gives you an easy smooth canvas which is nice… but I guess it would be an interesting opportunity to make something dramatic work on more mature skin!

WHAT CHEAPER BRANDS/PRODUCTS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR FREELANCE ARTISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT AND DON'T HAVE ALOT OF MONEY TO SPEND ON EXPENSIVE ITEMS?

Its best to invest in palettes to get a good little variety to start with and it works out cheaper than buying a load of individual eyeshadows etc!
Cheaper products that are great for the kit and versatile are maybeline gel liners and their “colour tattoo” cream shadows.
IF YOU COULD PICK 5 ITEMS OUT OF YOUR MAKEUP KIT TO USE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?

  • Artdeco Camouflage (Concealer) – amazing coverage but blends right into the skin so you can make it look very natural or very full on!
  • Bronzer- You can transform a face with a good contour! You can even use it in the crease of your eye for a bit of warmth and definition!
  • Brow Powder- brows frame the face and can transform a look! With a powder you have more control than with a pencil and can make them subtle or strong depending on your look and mood.
  • Mascara- girl gotta have some definition! Obviously on the lashes but I think it was possibly Bobbi Brown who once forgot her eyeliner when going to an event and dipped a little brush into her mascara and used it as liner and everyone was like WOW! Was this how liquid liner was invented? I cant confirm that but id like it if it was it’s a cute story haha!
  • Nude lipstick- obviously!
  • Red lipstick- A red lip can make the simplest makeup look into a bold one!

ARE THERE ANY ARTISTS WHO HAVE INSPIRED YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR MAKEUP CAREER?

Kevyn Aucoins work blew me away! First makeup book I ever looked at when I was really young and it is just amazing! Every makeup artist needs his book “Making Faces”.

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE MAKEUP STYLE AT THE MOMENT?

Im loving very a ver contoured face, smokey liner with lashes and a very dark red lip!
AND FINALLY...WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS ON BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL MAKEUP ARTIST LIKE YOURSELF?

Don’t try and imitate any other artist, be you. You can take inspiration from elsewhere but you have to find your own identity as a makeup artist. There will be times you become frustrated or uninspired but you have to keep at it! Always remember that makeup is not permanent so don’t be scared to just have a go!

DOLLFACE MAKEUP

Heres some looks on my friend Kim, I wanted to play with some new MAC products so here they are...
Kim has brown eyes, olive skin with yellow undertones and dark hair so wanted something dramatic which would add a little bit of colour to her eyes without being too colourful.  I came up with this navy look using MAC Lunar eyeshadow, I think navy looks amazing for those who have brown eyes and I smoked it out with MAC Carbon, a tiny bit of MAC Electra in the tear duct.  I used two different shades in the crease, one of them was MAC Omega and another one from a random coastal scents palette which was a medium brown just to blend into the crease.  I wanted to keep the lips natural so I used MAC Hue lipstick which is one of my fave nudes then added some nude gloss over the top (this was from a Fearne Cotton giftset I bought last Christmas in Boots).  The lashes are Eylure 145.
Here I wanted to go bronzy/golden for that sunkissed type of look... I used MAC Melon pigment for the lid, MAC Bronze eyeshadow in the crease and a matte brown to smoke it out at the edges.  The lips I used MAC Vegas Volt lipstick with MAC Pink Lemonade lipglass on top for some extra shine.  Again using the Eylure 145 false lashes for a flirty/dramatic effect.

What do you think of these two looks??

NEW GOODIES!

I went to the York Designer Outlet a few days ago with my boyfriend David and he bought me these goodies.  Check them out below...
We went into the Yankee Candle store and I sniffed a few of the candles but as soon as my nose came across this new Christmas scent I just HAD to have it.  Merry Marshmallow is a gorgeous marshmallow/vanilla smell and it's so sweet but not sickly sweet, I've had it lit every single day since I got it and it just makes my bedroom smell like a cake shop!
Next, we went into the Cosmetic Company Outlet (aka CCO) and I found these two MAC items.  They had loads of the MAC Christmas collection/gift sets from 2012 and I picked up this set of crushed metal pigments.  I've wanted to get a shimmery navy colour for a while now so as soon as I saw this eyeshadow I just knew I had to have it for my kit (plus it was the last one so it had to be mine!)
Heres the pigments, I've swatched them all and they are soooo pretty.  I don't think the green one is meant to be in this set but that doesn't matter because it's a gorgeous green that I know I'll use.  These pigments will be amazing mixed with MACs FIX+ to bring out the intensity.
This is the beautiful blue shadow... it's really shimmery and is in the shade Lunar.  I haven't used it yet but I can't wait to use it on clients with brown eyes as I think navy blue looks amazing on them.

These were some early Christmas gifts and I'm so grateful for them as they will come in really handy for my makeup kit.  The candle gets used daily and I'm in love with the smell :)

Have you tried any of these?

MUA SERIES: JADE BRADY

My first guest for the MUA SERIES is the very talented Jade Brady who is a fully qualified, professional makeup artist based in Manchester. Jade covers all aspects of makeup artistry including fashion and editorial, beauty, weddings, TV & film work, special effects, Asian bridal and commercial.  She has also worked with the girls from MTV's The Valleys and has worked on lots of shoots.  I remember around 8 years ago I met Jade on Piczo where you could make your very own website and it's just amazing seeing someone turn themselves into something really successful by putting in plenty of hard work and effort.  I have asked Jade a few questions and you can also see some of her work... you can get in touch and follow Jade by clicking on the links at the end of the post, but first check out what she has to say about the makeup industry...

FIRSTLY, HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY? AND HOW DID YOU BECOME SO SUCCESSFUL?
"I have watched Youtube videos and read blogs since I was in high school and have always loved makeup, especially with me having bad skin when I was a teenager. I didn't even know if any kind of makeup course existed other than in London so I went onto do A levels after school which I hated, but my passion for makeup never left.  I eventually found a makeup course near my home town, enrolled and immediately started advertising my services to family and friends, word spread around and I eventually got myself a healthy local client base."

WHATS YOUR IDEAL TYPE OF CLIENT?
"I love clients that aren't afraid to try something new/different. A typical dark smokey eye is very popular but I love it when they trust me to do something different!"

IF YOU COULD WORK WITH ONE CELEBRITY FOR THE DAY - DOING THEIR MAKEUP FOR THE BIG RED CARPET, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
"I would love to do Victoria Beckhams makeup. I just love everything about her and always have, she's so classy and she always looks so sophisticated. Im loving more simple and elegant makeup at the min and she wears that look well. It would also be a good opportunity to ask her if I could be the makeup artist for one of her fashion shows too! Lol"
HAS THERE EVER BEEN A TIME WHEN YOU'VE LOOKED BACK AT SOME MAKEUP WORK YOU'VE DONE AND THOUGHT "OMG WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?"
"Yes!!! So many times! Obviously everybody starts somewhere and I have positively learnt from any mistakes I've made! Practise makes perfect!"

DO YOU PREFER WORKING ON YOUNGER OR OLDER CLIENTS AND WHY?
"I love working with younger clients as they are a little more adventurous with colours etc, although the reaction I get from my more mature clients once they have had their makeover can be so rewarding!"

IF YOU COULD ONLY PICK 5 ITEMS OUT OF YOUR MAKEUP KIT TO USE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?
"Oh my gosh this is going to be hard!
  • Illamasqua skin base foundation: Gives the most amazing, flawless and glowing skin I have ever seen! I love using it with a good primer and my Real techniques sponge for the perfect finish.
  • Mac eyeshadows: You really cant beat Mac eyeshadows, huge colour range, amazing pigmentation.
  • Collection lasting perfection concealer: just because it has never failed me lol!
  • Mac lightscapade highlighter (mineralize skin finish) - my fave highlighter, beautiful white shimmer and subtle enough for day time wear.
  • Mac Creme cup lipstick - my fave daytime lipstick, so wearable"

HOW DO YOU COPE WORKING WITH FUSSY CLIENTS? DO YOU EVER GET STRESSED OR IMPATIENT?
"I have had some fussy clients, it is understandable in some circumstances, such as someones wedding day, the bride has the right to be a little fussy ha! Luckily enough, no one has ever been rude to me or nasty. I hardly ever get stressed, except maybe when a client cant stop nattering whilst I'm trying to do her lips lol!"

WHAT CHEAPER BRANDS/PRODUCTS DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR FREELANCE ARTISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT AND DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO SPLASH OUT ON ALOT OF EXPENSIVE ITEMS FOR THEIR KIT?
"The Sleek eyeshadow palettes and the big crown blush palettes saved my life when I first started out! So many colours! I also loved (and still love) the Rimmel 25 hour foundation, so good for party makeup and weddings as it really does last all day. I also used Primark lashes, the sultry ones, and if a client wanted thicker lashes I would pop 2 pairs on as they are only £1! Obviously as your clients and profits grow you can afford to splash out on other products for your kit. My makeup kit is still growing now and I still have some amazing high street products in there."

DO YOU HAVE ANY FUNNY/EMBARRASSING STORIES FROM WORKING IN THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY?
"None as of yet thankfully!"
ARE THERE ANY ARTISTS WHO HAVE INSPIRED YOU THROUGH YOUR MAKEUP CAREER?
"Alex Box is absolutely amazing, she really thinks outside the box (no pun intended lol) her work is just pure art! I also love Pat McGrath, I love her high fashion makeup work and catwalk looks. And finally Karla Powell, simply because I followed her quite a while ago on instagram/twitter, and watching her grow and see how far she has gone is really inspirational. The detail she puts into her makeup work is amazing."

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE MAKEUP STYLE AT THE MOMENT? (THIS COULD BE ON YOURSELF OR CLIENTS)
"I am loving the dark lips for this winter, especially really dark purples. Im also loving copper/red eyeshadow although I haven't tried it on myself yet!"

AND FINALLY, WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS ON BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL MAKEUP ARTIST LIKE YOURSELF?
"Never give up! I am still not where I want to be but I'm having an amazing time getting there. Network like crazy! Twitter/facebook/instagram really are your best friend. And practise practise practise!! My best friend has been my guinea-pig for sooo many makeup looks, she loves it!"

SUNJUNKIE SELF TANNER: MOUSSE & MIST

It's that time of year when everyones skin starts to look paler and the summer holiday tans fade... I still enjoy being tanned in the colder season and love wearing self tanner to keep me looking bronzed and glowing.  I recently came across the brand Sunjunkie on twitter and was really interested in trying the tanning products from their range to see how they compare to other brands.

So I've been trying out their Instant Dark Self Tanning Mousse* and Sunless Body Mist* over the past few weeks and I must say I'm totally impressed, especially with the mousse version.  Each product comes with a tanning mitt and a latex glove so you can apply them with ease and without making a mess... I love using the latex glove to apply my everyday moisturiser too as it glides on my skin smoothly and takes up less time to apply for some strange reason.
One of my fave things about these tanning products is the smell, they both smell like coconut which reminds me of being on a sunny holiday.... ahhh bliss!  The mousse dries into the skin instantly and the mist is a perfectly fine mist which also dries quite quickly so you're able to put on clothing straight after application.  Both of these have a tan guide so you can see exactly where you've applied the product to stop you from having a streaky/uneven tan, this is perfect for beginners!
I'm so glad I had the opportunity to try these out as they are really good and the tan fades evenly (some tans can fade and look patchy/scaley).  The smell is a big thing for me as coconut is one of my fave scents and it stops you from smelling like that awful fake tan/biscuity smell that most tans leave you with... not these guys though!  As you can see in the picture above, the packaging explains how you may look streaky but once showered you're left with a perfectly eve tan.  To be honest, I didn't look streaky at all before showering which is a plus... I also used both of these products on my face and they didn't break me out which I find some self tanners can be too heavy for my sensitive skin but these were fine.

You can purchase Sunjunkie from their official website here where they have tonnes of tanning products and also sell spray tanning kits for salons/beauticians.

I love my tan ;)

EYLURE NATURALITES #155

These are the new Eylure 155 lashes, I picked up 3 pairs in Boots last week and think they are so pretty, very light and add some fullness to the lashes without being too over dramatic.  These are perfect for day wear or if you're not a heavy makeup user for evenings then these will be great for you too.
Get them from here they are on offer 3 for 2!! £5.35 per set

BARRY M GELLY HI-SHINE: BLUEBERRY

This colour is AHHH-MAZING!  I know the colder season is here and everyones getting out their fave burgandy, metallic, red and other autumn shade nail polishes but I thought I'd brighten things up a little and wear this gorgeous Barry M nail polish in 'Blueberry' which I haven't wore yet even though it was purchased a few months ago...
Just look how vibrant it is.  This pic is 100% not edited the flash from my camera has made it go as vibrant as possible...this shade is perfect for any season in my opinion.  I used two coats of this to get it to be as opaque as possible, yes you can get away with one coat but I like it to be fully opaque, I then put on a Sally Hansen top coat which doubles as a nail strengthener.  I've already had a few compliments on this shade and I've only been wearing it for two days!  The brush is fab too as it's one of those wide ones which helps put the polish on more evenly.

You can purchase this from the Barry M website here for £3.99.  It's also currently on offer in Boots 3 for 2 ... go on treat yourself!

MONTHLY FAVES: OCTOBER 2013

Clarins instant smooth perfecting touch primer
I've been loving this primer as it helps my makeup stay put for hours, stops my skin from looking oily (I have oily skin) and when applying foundation it just glides on like a dream.  You only need the tiniest amount for the full face so this 15ml tub will last me forever.
Essie nail polish in 'penny talk'
You can see my review and some close up pictures of this amazing nail polish here
Stella by Stella McCartney perfume
This is one of my fave perfumes for the colder season, it has notes of Rose, Amber, Peony flower and Mandarine drops.  This is my second bottle of this perfume and I will purchase a third no doubt when this one runs out.
Lee Stafford my big fat root boost
I reviewed this amazing hair product last weekend on my blog, check it out here
Clean&Clear advantage spot treatment gel
I've been breaking out on my chin and cheek area lately, it's the cold weathers fault!  I've been using this on an evening and the next morning the blemish has 90% disapeared... this is currently on offer in Boots for only £3.06 so if you're prone to breakouts I suggest you give this a ago :)
Rimmel stay matte pressed powder
This is one of the only powders that doesn't feel itchy on my skin and keeps shine at bay.  This powder and my trusty MAC MSF natural are the only powders I will use because they work best for me and don't look cakey/too powdery.

Have you tried any of these products?  Let me know...
